Evolet is a new electric vehicle  brand under Rissala Group based in Gurugram in Haryana launched in September 2019. The company  Rissala Electric Motors Pvt. Ltd. (REM) markets new-age electric scooters, motorcycles, quad bikes, ambulances under Evolet brand and buses under  AMS brand. The company is led by Veteran Defense Officers, with nearly two decades of hands on access and experience in world’s best technologies, condensed into ‘Evolet’ products.  Evolet’s Executive director and CEO Sqn. Ldr. Prerana Chaturvedi spoke to Smartdrive Editor J Binduraj on company’s big plans for the future. 

Q:  Several electric vehicle start-ups are coming up in India, thanks to National Electric Mobility Mission Plan 2020 by the government. But are all these companies are equipped to produce e-vehicles which are technologically advanced? Where do Evolet and its parent company Rissala Electric Motors Private Ltd. Stands?

A: The automotive industry players and charging infrastructure, batteries and mobility service providers have taken various actions to ramp up industry action. Companies are designing and testing products suitable for the Indian market with a key focus on two-wheelers and three-wheelers. The EV industry will create 90 million jobs in the near future. Manufacturers are forging partnerships with states to augment their public transport systems, majority remain unequivocally aligned with the government’s vision.

Through the incorporation of latest technology and engineering skills, we are making a strong foothold in the automotive industry. Evolet conducts numerous quality checks throughout the manufacturing process to check these Electric Vehicles on various parameters. Further, skillful usage of high grade raw materials enhances their performance and productivity. Evolet is a highly advanced enterprise specializing in research and development and designing of EV’s. Adding to our strength is working with top brains – IIT students, German, French and Italian scientists on technological front.

Q:  Whether the Rissala group has any prior knowledge or experience in the automobile manufacturing industry? What are the other sectors in which the Rissala group has already proved successful?

Rissala group holds various businesses verticals in hospitality, wellness, lifestyle, sports and progressive agriculture. Rissala Electric Motors was incorporated in June 2019 and the brand name ‘Evolet’ was registered in August, 2019. the EV products; electric scooters, motorcycles, ATV, buses were formally launched on 4th Sept, 2019 at New Delhi and commercial operations began from 1st oct, 2019 with plant setup at Bilaspur, Haryana for 2 wheeler division and at Hyderabad & Chennai for bus division.

The front leaders are veteran defence officers with over two decades experience in serving armoured corp and army with electric scooters and motorcycles for the armed forces, cantonment, and air bases. The basic aim was to provide clean, quiet, friendly, and affordable electric two wheelers to defence forces. Over the years, we have tested more than 2000 vehicles in various models of 2w, 4w in extreme weather conditions; from hot deserts to heights & chills…. and thus began our commercial venture under brand name ‘Evolet’, which has started manufacturing electric vehicles in 2w, 4w and bus segment for public at large, corporations and government bodies.    Evolet is spearheaded by President Mr Kamaljeet Kataria, a full-time businessman and its operations are led by trailblazers Colonel Ajay Ahlawat and Squadron Leader Prerana Chaturvedi.

Q:  What is the total investment that went into manufacturing Electric scooters and bikes under brand Evolet?

A: We have heavily invested in the research and development and building IT infrastructure to support our complete plant production at Haryana, Hyderabad and Chennai plants.We have allocated budget of approx. INR 150 crores to start our pan India operations and production and we are making the investments in a phased manner. However, investors are ready at the click of a button to multiply the figures as per our increasing requirements

Q:  Other than two-wheelers, you are venturing into the production of electric buses, ambulances and all-terrain vehicles. Did you partner with other electrical mobility firms to realize your dream? How much investment went into these projects?

A: Chennai based AMS Electric Mobility Pvt. Ltd. is the chief engineering and design house of our electric buses and holds ARAI certification and homologation under its name. The electric buses are being manufactured jointly by AMS Electric Mobility and Rissala Electric Motors for catering to the requirements of various government agencies and corporates.  Both Hyderabad and Chennai facilities too are fully-equipped to produce 1500 buses per annum. Evolet is a brand of new-age electric scooters, motorcycles, quad bikes, ambulances and buses that are ready to electrify the electric vehicle market while caring for nature. We are making investments in phased manner and have allocated budget of approx. INR 150 crores for its two wheeler division and INR 300 crores for the E-Bus division to support its pan India operations and production.

Q:  It is known that Rissala electric is headed by veteran defence officers who handled technology related things in Indian Defense establishment. What made these former defence officers venture into this kind of business? Who are all the people behind the scenes?

Q:  Although launched in September 2019, the brand Evolet is not known in southern states of India like Kerala. Why Kerala, a state with huge potential for electric two-wheeler sales is left out in your expansion plan?

A: We have finalized our dealerships in the states of Maharashtra, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Punjab, Chandigarh, Haryana, Rajasthan besides Nepal and Bangladesh, the showrooms of which will come up by March 2020. Kerala state is also in our scheme of things and we are charting our expansion plan accordingly.

Q:  What are the models now being marketed under the brand Evolet? What is the market response? What are your future expansion plans?

A: We have solution in slow segment and high speed segment with three variants in each segment. This includes Electric scooters – Polo, Pony, Derby and for motorcycles, we have cruiser, sleek bike, and quad bike. We are the only company in India which offers solution in both segments along with number of variants. The Prices of our models; Polo, Pony, Derby (scooters), Falcon, Hawk, Raptor (motorcycles) range between Rs 44,000 to Rs 1,40,000; the Warrior (ATV) is priced at Rs 1,50,000 and the buses range between Rs 1.25 Cr to Rs 1.75 Cr. These models are fully equipped with advanced features such as IOT enabled mobile app; giving riders information on battery health, charging status, and security tracking on the phone using GPS besides reliability and mileage. Efficient after sales service, quick availability of spare parts, and light weight swappable batteries (available in Lithium ion) are our topmost strategies for ensuring high customer satisfaction.

We can vouch for it as we are moving according to the demand, which has made us open up 13 dealerships in these few months and 15 are in the pipeline in the next three months. We have also set the target at 100 plus dealerships across India by the end of 2020. Demand can also be gauged from the fact that we are receiving numerous institutional sales inquiries and we are formulating a plan to start distributing by the end of January 2020.

Q:   Lithium-Ion cells are the most preferred battery for the EV as if offers longer life and more mileage when compared to other batteries. Is Evolet planning to launch a factory in India to produce Li-I cells?

A: We will get into lithium ion battery segment after analyzing target segment probably by next year.
